A Handmade Christmas: ADVENT CALENDER

By Jollygoodstudio @JollyGoodStudio
Every year I try and make my festive season as handmade as possible. From decorations to gifts, I either do my best to DIY or I go on the hunt for items from small independent designers and makers. I'm not always successful (it can be hard to find items for your computer game loving nephew on Etsy) but I do my best and I enjoy sharing my efforts.
This year I'm starting with the advent calender. For many years my sister and I have been exchanging chocolate filled countdowns to Christmas. In my first year of a consciously handmade Xmas I made her a reusable one out of fabric. Now every year I try and think of something different to fill the little pockets with. She loves anything with a moustache on, so when I spotted a facial hair shaped ice cube tray I knew it would be the perfect tool. I used it to mold some moustache shaped sweet treats and mixed things up by using different types of chocolate and sprinkles. I then wrapped them all individually, ready to be placed into the pockets of her fabric calender.
