This relatively new app for both Android and Apple devices can be useful for new boaters and even those with significant experience who realize they may not have paid enough attention to safety issues. Lots of things can go wrong on a boat, and it's wise to be prepared. The Safe Skipper - Safety Afloat app covers preparations to take before you leave the dock, what equipment you carry and how to use it, communications in an emergency, and what to do in many common boating emergencies. It's not as comprehensive in coverage as a full book on seamanship, but it's useful to keep in your pocket and share with crew and passengers to help everyone be more informed of things that can occur.
