I'm amazed how much you can do now on your sailboat from your smart phone or other device. As one who has used a laptop for years for navigation, weather, inland radar, and other information, I've eagerly followed the flood of boating apps over the last couple years for the little devices you carry in your pocket. It seems you can do almost anything now with a smart phone, even though you need connectivity for some apps - but many other apps don't require it. Just recently, two new tide apps came on the market: Tidal Chronoscope for Apple and Android devices, and TideTrac for the iPad. Many other tide apps already existed, of course, including my personal favorite, AyeTides. All these are just a fraction of all the apps out there for boating, including some great navigation apps. It's a wonderful time for sailors who love gadgets! Holiday gifts, anyone?
