A Family Guide to Keeping Chickens by Anne Perdeaux

Well I better start swotting up about chickens hadn’t I?

Keeping Chickens – the blurb

For the family and would-be smallholder, chickens are the obvious first step when venturing into keeping livestock. Chickens also make ideal family pets, requiring less attention than a dog yet still being entertaining, productive and educational.
This practical book is ideal for the complete beginner. Even someone who has never kept animals before should be able to follow the clear, detailed guidance that is given at every stage.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

This really is a good, simple to understand book about keeping chickens. I got it as a gift for Christmas and found it really easy to read. It covers all aspects from start to end (yikes) of chicken ownership. It is also really inclusive to children, each chapter having a little quiz, chicken related activities and really bad(good) chicken jokes! It’s clearly written by someone who knows all about chickens and who has been there, done that. Having read it I now feel confident at giving it all a go, although I will be checking hourly for red mite and foxes. It’s a definite keeper as after hubby and eldest have read it I’m sure we will be dipping in to in times of chicken crisis. Or when I’m wanting a joke for a Christmas cracker.
