A Dorset Beach Wedding with Leighton & Claire

By Linusm

A Dorset beach wedding proved to be my kick off to the 2014 wedding season with a beautifully simple, yet intimate ceremony over-looking Chesil beach.

A brave and possibly fool hardy wedding to have in February, but rain or shine there was safety in the knowledge that the ceremony was to be done inside the shelter of the Cove House Inn on Portland.  Picture opportunities (weather permitting) would take place on the famous Chesil beach, a World heritage site recognised for its outstanding natural beauty.

The preceding week, the location had been on the national news every other day as it battled 30ft waves engulfing the property.  Windows had been smashed with personal belongings being drenched by the colossal waves and driving winds.  I had wondered if the wedding was even going to go ahead.

Just days to go and the winds died back, the sea had calmed, but the rain was still a concern.  Things were looking better, all we could do is keep our fingers crossed come the day.

That morning was similar to the many others that had proceeded, but the magical thing about living on the Dorset coast, is that things can change quickly.  The overcast morning cleared and then the sun came out, adding warmth and illuminating the deep blue sky.

I have often worked, utilising the natural light creating flattering portraits, but this time there was a shot that I wanted to capture.  Simple and bold, utilising all the blue colour of the sky as a backdrop with my bride and groom small in the frame.

I had my chance and took it.  Leaving the bridal party to leave the beach, both Claire & Leighton paused to look back over the beach – it was there, in the bag.

Amazing to think what may have been running through the couples minds leading up to the day, with natural concerns over the weather.   With them living and working over in Dubai, facing the prospect of heading back to the UK to be married in one of the biggest flash points of the greatest storms we have faced!

I’m so glad it all came together perfectly with their wedding day enjoying one of the best days so far of 2014.  I hope the rest of the married life is full of such good fortune.
