Wired Magazine reported that Troy Alexander, a graduate student at Georgia Tech found this strange, sticky little Stonehenge on the underside of a blue tarp near the Tambopata Research Center, in southeastern Peru. He later spotted three more on tree trunks in the jungle.
He posted it on Reddit, assuming some bug expert would be able to identify what creature made it, but no one knows… Best guesses are a species of moth. Or maybe just one moth who digs fences or reads too much Robert Frost poetry. I thought it was pretty neat though, that a bug would build a human-like fence to protect its eggs, with tiny posts and everything,
Or do we build fences we learned from moths?
