Salmon is a fish that is rich in protein and omega-3that is said to be essential for good health. While salmon is the top choice for most to get their dose of Omega-3, the salmon that we get in the market these days are those from the farms that are not as natural as they seem to be.
Here are 8 reasons why you should skip Salmon unless you are sure it is from a natural source:
- Salmon are fed chicken poop
In some Salmon farms across the country, they feed chicken poop and hydrolyzed feathers to the salmon to make them bulky.
- It lacks nutrients
Farmed salmon does not even contain one fourth of the Vitamin D or other vitamins present in the wild varieties of salmon.
- Added color
Salmon found in the wild comes in a naturally pink tint. But those that are farm bred are fed on pellets made of ground fish and soy due to which they sport a beige color.
So what these salmon farmers do is that they inject dyes in the food of the fish, so that their color changes from the inside.
- Infected with lice
Salmon farms attract lots of marine insects called sea lice. The toxic chemical that is used to rid the lice from the salmon has been shown to cause spinal deterioration and tremors when administered to rats and dogs.
- Infested with tapeworm
Most of Salmon farms are located in Chile. What the farmers in Chile do is that they first breed junior or baby Salmon in their fresh water lakes where local parasites and tape worm spread from the native species of fish to the ones that are being bred. So now we know where those parasites that infect our intestines come from.
- Contaminated
Most health care officials will refuse to touch farm bred salmon. According to them the Salmon bred in farms contain contaminants that can even lead to cancer and other dangerous health issues and problems.
- Tainted with chemicals
You might not know it looking at the fish. But tests have proved that farm bred Salmon is full of toxic chemicals that cause cancer and even banned in the country that include mainly Agent Orange.
- Its packed with bad fats
While the naturally found Salmon is good for health and contains nutrients such as Omega-3 and Omega-6, the farm bred variety has a completely different balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 since they are fed with soy pellets. The soy pellets increase the ratio of Omega-6, which is not so good for your health.
