  • Habit of skipping breakfast

Many people believe that they will be able to save a lot of calories if they skip breakfast. They are not aware that they are committing the worst blunder when it comes to their health. Breakfast can also be considered as made up of two words, “ break fast”. Since our stomach is empty for past 8 hours, it is essential to have breakfast to refuel our energies. Also skipping breakfast will make you hungrier making you gorge whatever comes in front of you.

  • Habit of eating in front of the TV

Many people prefer eating before a TV watching their favorite shows. While watching these programs, they are not even aware how much they have eaten. This results in overeating. The focus at this time is entirely on the show rather than the food that is being eaten.

  • Habit of not practicing portion control

Either cook only that much food that will suffice the requirements of every member of the family or learn to control the portions you are having in your plate. Many times, in order to avoid throwing away leftovers, people try to finish them off in addition to the fresh food that has been cooked. This results in overeating.

  • Habit of confusing thirst and hunger

People also get confused about hunger and thirst sensations felt by them. Due to this confusion, people again start gorging even if they had their meal just a short while ago. In order to avoid this problem, one must drink a glass of water and wait for half an hour to see if they still feel hungry.

  • Habit if eating as per the needs of the partner

It has been seen that when the partner is not aware about his overeating problem and eat unmindfully, the other partner finds it difficult to stay to his or her healthy eating goals. Motivate your partner to eat healthy in order to stick to your goals and ensure that there is no mindless binging.

  • Habit of using over sized plate and bowl

In order to eat healthy and according to the portion you have decided for yourself, use small plates and bowls as this way, your plate will look full and you will think that you are eating a lot when in reality you are eating only that much what is necessary.

  • Habit of feeling guilty

Do not feel guilty if once in a while you let go of your inner urges and try to satiate them. The body will respond to these changes in a gradual manner and sudden changes will be short lived.

  • Habit of snacking

If you feel hungry and feel a need for snacking, look for healthy choices instead of going for snacks that are high in salt and fat.
