7 Tips to Choose a Campsite

Camping trips are a lot of fun and those who like to camp regularly have at one time or another chosen a not such a suitable spot. For the selection of an ideal place, one has to consider several factors such as shelter from winds and ants. By choosing the right spot you can benefit in the following way:

  • Have a wonderful time relaxing with friend and family
  • Prevent arguments with strangers over pets or smoke or music
  • Enjoy ample privacy and keep safe at a new place where you do not know anyone

Most of us do not know how to go about choosing the right spot for camping. Here are 7 tips to help you come to a good decision:

The trip will have a good start if you choose a campsite that fulfills all your expectations. All established parks have to abide by certain regulations so make a list of campsites that are popular and not so very far away from home. Many campers are used to setting up their camping gear anywhere they want to, but when traveling with friends and family a nice spot will make the trip more memorable and meaningful.

Campsites vary in size and it is good to consider the size of your camp. You will need to set up a table, chairs and a camp kitchen. If you find a place that has the picnic tables and BBQ grills for guests, consider it for its convenience. For RV camping, check the size of the space that is on offer.

Campfires are a lot of fun when you are camping with kids that love to roast marshmallows. Make sure the fire will not be close to the camp or the RV as smoke can be annoying for some. If the camping spot has the fire-pits you can use those for your entertainment.

It is not wise to camp on a slope so choose a piece of land that is flat. The surface has to be soft so you can enjoy your sleep. Arrange your table and chairs away from a slope, so if there is a downpour your area will not get flooded with water. Water can also get into your tent if you are on a slope.

Big trees offer ample shade and let you stay cool and comfortable. Check the nearby camping grounds for the trees they have and make sure they are safe. When the strong winds blow trees with dead branches may cause an accident. If you love hammocks, trees on your campsite are a necessity.

If you are an RV camper check to see if the campsite has all the utilities you need. Water, electricity, Wi-Fi and cable TV are all important if you want an enjoyable time. If you will be putting up a tent, make sure you are near water, toilets and have ample privacy. At some campsites, the neighbors may not be pleasant. They may not like your music or your dogs playing around. When you select a campsite that is well managed there will be no problems with neighbors. Such campsites have the rules and regulations that all need to follow and this way everyone is able to enjoy their time camping.

Select a Spot with Ample Activities

During camping trips, it is easy to get bored. If there is a fishing pier you can spend time fly-fishing or use the hiking trails or rent boats by the hours to see more of the river or the lake. At some campgrounds, you can also find volleyball and basketball courts. These activities will enrich the camping experience.
