5 Ways to Update Your Rental Bathroom

By Cleverbuttons @cleverbuttons

If you’re sick of trawling sites like Utopia and Pinterest in the vain hope that your landlord will somehow find your laptop, look at your browsing history and discover your obsession with new bathrooms, then you’re in desperate need of a bathroom overhaul. Alright, so you haven’t quite plucked up the courage to actually speak to your landlord yet. So if you’re planning on dealing with your bathroom the way it is just a little bit longer, then here are a few ideas to making the most of the bathroom you have.

The Shower Curtain

Of course, you cry. Your landlord might have left you a shiny new shower curtain when you moved in, but it wasn’t the nicest or most well made one. It’s probably even a little mildewed by now too. So, one of the quickest and most instant ways to update your bathroom is to swap your shower curtain out, and more often than not, it has a transformative effect. They come in all sorts of different patterns, so whatever style you’re going for, you’re bound to find one that will inject a bit of color and personality into your bathroom.
Add Storage

Typically, rental bathrooms come with little to no storage space. So, you need to be inventive. You don’t really want every guest to see all your toiletries every time they come round and have to nip to the loo, so you need to think of ways of storing them that is convenient for you. There are lots of ways that you can add extra storage to your bathroom, from shower caddies to keep your bath look neat to freestanding units to keep all your bits and bobs on.

Embrace the Decor

Instead of lamenting that ‘hideous’ vintage tile, embrace it. You might want to cover it up, but you might learn to love it if you’d only give it a chance. Go with it and have fun by using similar colours or setting it off with modern touches.

Swap Out Furnishings and Accessories

Invest in great furnishings and accessories and you’ll find that your bathroom will be transformed. This is the stuff that landlords try to save money on, and as a result your bathroom ends up looking really generic. Swap out the everyday blinds and the toilet roll holder for something fancier and your bathroom will go up a notch in the style stakes.

Buy Good Towels

A swanky set of towels will make your bathroom experience that little bit more luxurious. They’re something that gets used so often that the towels are something that often get forgotten, so make sure they match the rest of your updated new bathroom.
