5 Top Ideas to Land a Job When Abroad

By Internationalcouples @icouples

Look for a jobIf you are living in a foreign country or are about to move you must have thought of your job. If you are leaving your present one because you decided to follow your partner or for other reasons, you must have wondered whether you can ever find a job in your new country.

Needless to say, the most immediate and esiest solution would be to work for the same company (take a look at Need to reduce the stress of relocation? Work for the same company!). But if you are not working at the moment or if your company does not have a local branch or simply because you want to ring the changes, then you are going to need ideas and strategies. Here is a list of 5 usueful suggestions:

1. Use your cultural background to create opportunities. Ever thought of becoming a:

- country expert?

- country advisor?

- consultant?

2. Use your mother tongue to create opportunities for yourself. Would you be a:

- tourist guide?

- language teacher?

- interpreter/translator?

3. Writer/blogger. A funny way to share what happens around you, your experiences, your passions. If writing is down your alley, nowadays  having your work submitted to editors and potential publishers is really easy.

Not sure what to write about? Take a look at two of the main online sources for bloggers:

4. Ever thought of an online business or a home-based one? Here is a most helpful link:

  • Home Business Launchpad.

Online business is a term that covers basically many areas but it is often ill-regarded. Developing an online business is as hard as starting up any other company. The advantage is that you can establish you home-based office, trade from your home in your pajamas and minimize costs.

5. Export products/ideas/services from your country. Upon moving to a foreign country one of the easiest business ideas/job opportunities to spoil is to export products or services that are common in your country. Avoiding stereotypes isn't the best thing here. Probably, you should stick with what you know and general stereotypes can actually help! It is not a coincidence if emigrants usually end up in businesses in fields they are familiar with. It may be exporting porcelain, a tipe of food, a type of tapestry or handcrafted something. Stick with what you know!
