Every day, I watch a movie, listen to someone, or randomly overhear someone talking about how much they want to get married. It doesn’t bother me because I feel marriage is a beautiful thing. However, I also feel that some people are more in love with the idea of marriage then the person they’re actually saying I do to. I wonder if people actually take the time to ponder what a marriage actually is and what it entails. Marriage is not fun all the time, its work! It requires work, in fact, it’s a second job. Here’s 5 things you should know before you get married:

Marriage Isn’t All Peaches & Cream

You will not walk on water hand and hand, nor live in a castle made of gold all of your adult married life. Marriage is not about being happy together when times are good. It’s about working together when times are bad. Every marriage faces its challenges at some point. You cannot run and hide when things are not peaches and cream. Celebrate the good times and work out the bad! Remember it’s for better or worse, you have to love the worse too!

Loving the person Actually Helps

I have no idea why some people get married just for the sake of being married. You do not get 5 gold stars by your name for being married. Nobody thinks more or less of you for being married other than your spouse (in some cases). It may actually help to be head over heels in love with someone before you take that seemingly long walk down the aisle. It certainly makes things much better when things aren’t peaches and cream.

It’s Not about Me, Me, Me, Me, Me Anymore

Believe it or not, there will come a time when you don’t get your way for whatever reason (yeah, that sucks). When you get married you remove you from the equation and replace it with us. You can no longer make major decisions without consulting your spouse first. And in some cases, that includes cutting your hair.

There will be “whatever you say” moments

There will be times when your spouse says something so ass backwards that the only words that can come out of your mouth is “whatever you say”. In your mind you’re thinking you got to be kidding me. It will take all you have to keep you from saying “you’re out of your mind”. If you want to be the peace keeper you will have to learn 3 valuable words …whatever you say!

Learn How to Improvise

I’m 100% serious when I say you won’t have honeymoon sex all the time. As you settle into your life together and establish a routine, sex can also become routine aka boring. You will have to improvise and pull some new tricks out your hat. When you run out, you better hop on the internet and find some more. You can have a great sex education class in the comfort of your own home just by hoping on the internet. It gets no easier than that! If your spouse is not up to trying something new, you might want to educate them about the 3 words I mentioned in the paragraph above.

Have you ever felt someone was getting married for the wrong reasons?
