5 Reasons Why OS X Yosemite is Better Than Windows 8.1

Posted on the 09 June 2014 by Anna Peterson

Apple recently introduced the new version of its operating system, OS X Yosemite, and a number of developers have already expressed their views about it. Most agree that Yosemite is a whole lot better than Windows. We, too, have prepared a list of top 5 reasons why you should pick Yosemite instead of Windows 8.1, so read on to find out more.

1. Your Phone Is in Another Room: Not a Problem!

Take and receive calls from your Mac.

Who among us has not made the mistake of leaving their phone in another room, while sitting in front of their computer? That is the first reason why OS X Yosemite is better – it will allow you to make and take calls right there from your Mac. No more getting up and running to another room in order to see who’s calling you.

2. Spotlight: Search Made Better

Search made easier in Yosemite

Unlike the Search Charm (Windows 8.1) which pops up on the right of your screen, Spotlight in Yosemite is placed in the center of your screen. Spotlight also gives you content previews in search results and, if you are looking for an application, for example, Spotlight will give its rating and the More option that will take you to the app’s full page.

3. Switching Devices is Easier

When you move your work from your Mac to an iOS device (or vice versa), you will be able to pick up right where you left off on that other device. For example, if you were writing an email on your Mac, but you want to move to the couch and continue writing it on your iPad? Not a problem. You will receive a message on your iPad, telling you about your unfinished e-mail, and then you’ll be able to get it done. Needless to say that Windows doesn’t have this feature.

4. 5GB for Attachments?

Sharing large files via e-mail is virtually impossible. You have to use services like Dropbox or OneDrive to do it, because most mail services (Gmail or Outlook) give you a limit of only 25MB for attachments. Fortunately, with the new version of Mail in OS X Yosemite, you will be able to send attachments up to 5GB! Nice, right?

5. It’s free!

Unlike Microsoft’s OS, Apple’s is free. If you were having doubts about which OS to choose, you shouldn’t now.

OS X Yosemite will become available to users worldwide this fall.
