This has been one surreal week. While everything downtown has been shut down for days because of a massive power outage and flooding, Upper Manhattan has come out virtually unscathed. It’s almost as if two different storms hit the Northeast! The big problem now is there’s a major gas shortage; last night, after 1 AM, we saw a HUGE line of cars- spanning blocks- trying to get fuel from a nearby filling station. It’s easy to forget we live on an island sometimes.
Taking advantage of the day off, my mom and I went out to window shop the other day. We stopped at 5 Napkin Burger for lunch.
If you’ve been reading for awhile, you may remember I worked at a burger restaurant for over a year. I try to keep locations private for safety reasons, so at the time I didn’t disclose the exact place of employment. It’s now been more than a year since I’ve worked there, though, so I’m happy to share that I worked at 5 Napkin!
You may remember I ate a phenomenal veggie burger almost every day; this is, hands-down, the best veggie burger I’ve ever had. It’s made with beets, carrots and lentils, and has the perfect texture. Order it with the kofta garnish (it’s for their lamb burger, and comes with Israeli salad and the BEST tahini sauce in town) and your heart will sing. I could still eat this every day.
While out with friends the other night, we passed the Sandy crane building, which is still dangling 1000 feet above the street, and still requiring surrounding streets to be completely closed down.
We’re off to enjoy the day. We’re going to try and check out downtown Manhattan… I’m happy to report that some of our friends who live down there have gotten their power back! Life is beginning to return to normal…
