So and so said…
In a world filled with gossip surrounding celebrities like Kardashian & Snooki, it’s a well-known fact that there are a boundless supply of rumors and myths out there. Unfortunately, our poor bathrooms have fallen victim to these brutal lies and frivolous accusations. We’re going to put an end to 4 Bathroom Myths that Aren’t True!
1. The Direction of Your Toilet Swirls depends on which Hemisphere Your In
A common lavatory myth is that when you flush, the direction your water travels in depends on what hemisphere you’re in. In the southern hemisphere it supposedly travels clockwise and counter-clockwise in the northern hemisphere. This myth is so widespread, that it even made it’s way on to an episode of “The Simpsons.” Serious stuff right? Well we’re sorry to break it to you but this story is false. The direction of your toilets swirl remains the same regardless of what hemisphere you are in!
2. You’re more likely to catch an illness in the washroom than anywhere else
Many people believe that you’re more likely to catch an illness from a public restroom than anywhere else. The truth is, you’re more likely to catch a cold in an elevator than a public restroom. This is because airborne viruses travel in small, poorly ventilated spaces that place you in close proximity with a lot of people. Most public restrooms tend to be spacious and well ventilated; two facts that make it a difficult place for viruses to transmit from one person to another!
3. Going Green is Expensive
Going green has become one of the biggest trends in home design and construction. Unfortunately, some people think that ecofriendly products are not wallet-friendly. A good reason for hesitation but only on reasonable grounds. As it turns out, some materials may cost more than traditional materials, but it will save you money in the long run! Most of these savings come from reduced costs and tax incentives. Something to think about the next time you renovate your bathroom!
4. It’s Safer to flush the Toilet with your foot
This next myth is one that you have probably tried in an acrobatic attempt to avoid creepy germs in a public restroom. Flushing the toilet with your foot rather than your hand is practiced by many in an effort to avoid contact with the toilet handle. Sorry to burst your bubble but experts say it’s not safer and could actually put you at risk. You risk possible injury from slipping and falling if you’re standing on one leg while you flush! Experts suggest using a wad of toilet paper to press the toilet lever. This will keep you grounded on both legs while avoiding contact with that handle you dread!
