Ding dong, it’s already the middle of the year. Well I’ve listed some of my favorites this year, but I think it’s too early to post them. This month isn’t the most productive month for me in terms of movie watching, weekends are busy than usual. But I’m glad to see 2 films in IMDB Top 250 (making me already watched 80 films from all in the list). And this month we welcomed new knowledgeable contributor, Febrian Andhika, yay!

And also, one thing that made my day this month was seeing IG’s article being tweeted by Focus Features :

If you ask me, I’m pretty happy to be tweeted by them
:)
Thanks, Focus Features.

Before we recap the month, here’s the top movie I saw in June 2013 :

Obviously, who could beat It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)? Some movies belong in the top shelf. Runner ups are The Place Beyond The Pines and Man of Steel, though Chungking Express isn’t exactly forgettable.

Now You See Me (2013)

A crime movie wrapped with magician acts. Great cast, strong performances with many surprises in the story. But it has too many plot twists, especially the forced twist at the end. I grew tired watching it because it tried too hard to give suspense and surprise. Not sure what’s the true point of this movie. And, um, Melanie Laurent is surely damn beautiful.

Movie Score : 3 Stars

Epic (2013)

Excellent animation (soothing nature feeling), but with pretty generic characters except  Queen Tara (unfortunately only appear for a few scenes with the unique voice of Beyonce Knowles) and the two snails. I actually liked the basic story about father-and-daughter stranded relationship. The plot story and twist was pretty safe.

Movie Score : 3 Stars

Your Highness (2011)

When I first saw this movie, I didn’t finish it. I figured I won’t waste my time. I saw it as a material for Nostra’s 5 Obstructions blogathon. Though I’m glad I didn’t have to praise much about this movie, there were actually pretty good points about it. For example, the bad relationship of elder and youngest brother, one’s pretty much the spotlight and the other’s the failure. Natalie Portman’s the only solid thing in the movie, and though entertaining, Zooey Deschanel’s appearance pretty much just okay. The jokes aren’t for everyone.

Movie Score : 2 Stars

Princess Bride (1987)

A classic fairytale with a bit of adventure and comedy, very friendly-family movie (except a tad kiss here and there). Easy to follow, funny with a light wisdom message in it, especially about true love (believe it or not). She seemed effortless, but I believe it’s the best Robin Wright’s performance I’ve ever seen. But (I hate to say it) with many crazy stories we’ve seen in movies lately, this one seem very simple and readable plot. I can’t say this one’s a strong candidate in IMDB’s top 250.

Movie Score : 3,5 Stars

It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)

I’ve finally watched this one! What’s more to say than an amazing life-changing story of a depressed man. It’s one of the movies you can and should see on a rainy day. I love Mary and George’s perfect relationship (Donna Reed and James Stewart have a great chemistry). Sometimes when we’re in a lot pressure, it’s easier to see flaws but forget our life purpose. Movie Score : 5 Stars
