The 2016 French Open is right around the corner, starting on May 16th, and Adidas has rolled out it's "Roland Garros Y-3 Collection by fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto. I hate to dog anyone, but really, Adidas?!

Now, I adore Yamamoto's avant-garde style on the runways, and I totally get that high end, designer fashion is supposed to be unique and sometimes, even weird. But in my opinion, he took "weird" too far with some of the pieces in this collection.

Ana Ivanovic

It's easier to see this dress paired with a handbag and sandals, rather than a tennis racket and tennis shoes, isn't it? Not only that, but Ana is a statuesque, 6′ tennis goddess, and she barley pulls off the look. What does that say bout how it will look on the rest of us? Exactly!

** NOTE: The pattern of the court dress that is available for us civilians to purchase is different than Ana's dress. It is much busier, with a tighter pattern and smaller stripes (better?).

The warm up jacket is different, too - and not in a good way. The poofy patch pocket on the left sleeve is bad enough, but the black and white striped bows on the breast pockets are just ridiculous. Come on! Can you see Ana rocking these "pastie" pockets? Hell to the no!!

I prefer the simplicity of the black version of the court dress, and the black and white socks rock! I really hope Ana wears this one instead.

Simona Halep

Simona will be wearing the tank and skort separates, which aren't any better. The straight lines of the faux suspenders don't go well with the curvy lines of the rest of the pattern, and the lacy ruffled skort looks like it came from a totally different collection.

Here are photos of the actual top that's available for purchase. While I don't like the front much, I like the back even less. The "suspenders" look even more out of place:

And here is the skort. It may be less ruffle-y than what Simona is wearing, but it still is a definite NO for me:

Also wearing the Y-3 Roland Garros collection at the French this year:

Angelique Kerber
Kristina Mladenovic

OK, I'm not a total Debbie-downer... I DO like the player's shoes. They have just enough funk to be pretty cool:

All of these pieces and more are available for purchase at Tennis Warehouse, Tennis Express, and other major tennis apparel retailers.

Please know that in no way am I trying to sway anyone from purchasing this collection. These are just my personal opinions about it. I'd love to read your opinions, too! What do you love about it? What do you hate about it? Let's discuss in the comments section below!
