Coming across bottles of The Dragon Orkney Pure Malt is no small feat. It was bottled by S & J D Robertson group in Kirkwall and all I can find out about them online is that they’re into “Investing in local business and renewable energy projects: commercial and residential rental properties.” They don’t have a website, a Facebook, Twitter, etc. and the few other reviews I dug up of this yielded no more info about the people who bottled it.
If this whisky sucked, I’d honestly be less interested in whoever bottled it, but seeing as how it’s utterly amazing I want to know more about who bottled it, why and how many total casks they picked. I’ve seen other bottles with other dates on them and I’d love to know more. Right now all I know is that this 1973 is an awesome cask, or casks, and the details of just how awesome is in The Dragon Orkney Pure Malt review below.

The Dragon Orkney Pure Malt Review
EYE
Nearly black
NOSE
Cocoa, malt, heavy sherry, citrus, spice, peat, leather, complex fruit, graham and salted butter on bread. Dynamic and deep the aroma feels heavy as it rolls through the sinuses.
PALATE
Sherry, nutty, dark fruit, cocoa, pepper, dried orchard fruit, spice, minerality, sulfur, leather, smoke and a bit of nuttiness and graham. On the palate it feels even heavier and richer and comes off like one of those drams you could find something new in every time you open it.
FINISH
Long slow fade of dark fruit, smoke, sulfur, leather, dried dark fruit, orange zest, malt, nuts and ash.
BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
Pristine balance, round full body and a heavy syrupy feel.
OVERALL
Superb. The Dragon Orkney Pure Malt is a whisky that even the picky Malt Maniacs gave a 96. At the incredible tasting put on by Alex G it was far and away the best whisky of the night and we had no shortage of great whisky that evening.
The aroma, palate and finish ofThe Dragon Orkney Pure Malt are the very definition of rich and complex and came dangerously close to an A+. It was one of those rare whisky moments where all you can do is stare at the glass and marvel at how truly, mind-blowingly good, whisky can be when everything comes together just right.
SCORE: 93-97/100 (A, consumed at a tasting)
Thanks to Alex G for the tasting
