1965 war hero Air Commodore (retd) Muhammad Mahmood Alam, popularly known as MM Alam, passed away in Karachi on Monday following a long illness. He was of 78.
MM Alam, as a fighter pilot, shot down five Indian warplanes in less than a minute during the war and altogether, downed nine warplanes of the rival and damaged two others. He was later awarded the Sitara-i-Jurrat.
He was admitted to Pakistan Naval Station Shifa hospital in December 2012 and had been under treatment since then.
Pakistan Air Force (PAF) spokesman has confirmed his death.
