17 Turkish soldiers killed in helicopter crash
Seventeen Turkish soldiers have been killed in a helicopter crash in southeast Turkey, local officials said on Saturday.
According to security sources, the helicopter was carrying troops to Siirt’s Pervari district, where the Turkish army had launched a land operation against Kurdish rebels three days ago.
Local governor Ahmet Aydin said the victims were members of gendarmerie special forces.
The cause of the crash was not clear immediately but media said the incident occurred due to heavy fog in a mountainous area.
