14,000 Graced Milo Event in Mindanao With a force of about 14,000 runners and running enthusiasts blazing the Davao City tracks, MILO Marathon made local history as the biggest foot race ever to take place in the Mindanao region. Organizers said that they remain upbeat on reaching their target of 200,000 runners for the entire season
Anthony Nerza clocked in at a swift 1:12:30 and carved his best personal time to date. The 23-year old student said he looks forward to asserting his dominance in the National Finals, where he is set to face his hometown rival once again in the 42k track. “This year’s race allowed me to assess my limits in the sport regardless of my familiarity with the route and with the contenders. The level of competition today was definitely higher than the previous races, but I am expecting a more challenging bout from other regional winners in December,” said the Kapatagan, Digos native
Former MILO Marathon Queen Flordilisa Donos proved she remains a strong force in the sport by finishing far ahead of competitors in the 21k distaff race division. She clocked in at 1:26:52 and led fellow team members in the top 10 cast
Completing the top 3 cast for the 21-k men’s division race behind Anthony Nerza and Brian Lupio (1:13:54) is University of Mindanao’s James Castillo with 1:14:21. Meanwhile, Cellie Rose Jaro posted a time of 1:35:28 in the women’s division race, while Emely Avergonzado posted 1:37:32 to finish in third
For the school category awards, the Davao City National High School sent in 1,035 student runners to wrap the “Biggest School Delegation” plum, while University of Mindanao brought home the “Fastest School Delegation” award with an aggregate time of 19:59.22
