Week 8 Weight Loss Update – Eating As A Form Of Entertainment

By Kenin Bassart @Constantramble

Being a travel blogger is absolutely amazing, until you start trying to lose weight! Most of our readers know that Kenin and I  run The Constant Rambler as well. This means that we get to review amazing restaurants and go on fantastic food tours all over the world. This also means that we consume extra calories almost every single day :( This week was one of those weeks where that happened, big time! Eating as a form of entertainment can really challenge anyone trying to lose weight. Here’s how we made out this week.

Lauren’s Week 8  - Fighting the good fight

This week was pretty rough for me. I spent the week eating fabulous dinners and gorgeous desserts. I drank what felt like an entire cask of wine as well as some amazing mixed drinks. I had appetizers and entrees and even an amuse bouche. It’s a tough life right

:)
? It is, if you are trying to lose weight and get fit! I managed to gain weight this week. After 7 weeks of losing weight, it had to catch up with me. I worked out almost every day and I kept to my two shakes a day as well. The problem this week was food tours and restaurant reviews. I managed to go from 170.5 (the 160′s were so close) to 173.5 I know some of that will be water weight and I will shed that over the next few days, but I am not going to let this get me down. I am kicking it into high gear this week and salads are going to be my best friend. Salads and exercise are in next weeks forecast. Getting my butt back on the road to fit!

Kenin’s Week 8 – The Dangers of Drunk Dining

The life of a blogger can be a tough one sometimes. When you decided to commit to sharing your entire life with the whole world you can run into a lot of ethical grey areas when deciding what to write about. This week, I was tempted to just “forget” about our weight loss updates so I wouldn’t have to publicly admit that the weight loss train I’ve been riding just crash and burned. If I did that though, I wouldn’t have my integrity. Not with you my reader, or with myself. So I want to talk about something very serious in the weight loss world. The dangers of Drunk Dining and what a DUI (that’s Dining Under the Influence) can lead to.

As Lauren mentioned, our primary blog occasionally requires us to go out to fancy and unique restaurants to see what they have to offer. Well this week was one of those weeks where due to scheduling we had 4 reviews in the same week, plus we were celebrating our 10- year wedding anniversary. As you can imagine, eating out 6 times in a week can quickly lead to a diet disaster. There were 2 key reasons for this. The first one is that every meal we enjoyed inevitably included some drinking.  As I mentioned in my post about alcohol and weight loss, this can lead to a quick dropping of inhibitions which can result in severe over eating. On top of that alcohol causes my body to retain a bunch of water. If you look at my chart below, each peak occurred the morning after I had at least 3 drinks.  The second cause of disaster was that I forgot my own advice for eating healthy at a restaurant. (maybe the DUI helped with that a bit too) The result?? I weighed in this morning at 277.1. For the first time ever, I have to report the fact that this week resulted in a weight gain and not a weight loss.

What matters the most here isn’t really the weight gain though. It’s what I do from this moment forward. I can either do one of two things. I can whine and cry about my gains, or I can pick up the pieces, jump back on the train (clean and sober) and keep moving forward! I just have to remind myself that the road to fitness and lifestyle changes aren’t a sprint, they are a lifelong marathon. Every once in a while, it’s ok if you stumble, or worse fall, as long as the next day you pick it all back up and keep running.
