Get Fresh, Glowing Skin Naturally

I’ve mentioned before that I use Nimue products, as recommended to me by a dermatologist about a year ago. I have really fair skin, and live in sunny Australia so I’m prone to pigmentation and freckles, and Nimue offers a line of products that addresses this type of issue. (Please note that this is not a sponsored post).

Over the years though, I’ve found that although products can work to enhance good skin, there’s other far more valuable ways that you can create crystal-clear, glowing and healthy-looking skin. It works from the inside out, rather than the other way around.

Here’s four ways I’ve found you can obtain fresh, glowing skin without relying on expensive products. My skin is always far better when I follow these rules!

Address food intolerance

For me, drinking milk makes me break out. I’ve not scientifically tested it, but I’ve proven it numerous times just through stopping and starting consumption of it. I’ve now completely stopped drinking cow’s milk and now I drink only organic almond milk, and sometimes a little soy. If you’re prone to break outs, try reducing or eliminating dairy just for a little while to see if this may be the culprit. It’s wise to go and see a healthcare professional to confirm whether you may be allergic to certain types of foods. (I still eat cheese though – it seems to really only be cow’s milk that causes the break outs). It’s worth investigating, though.

Reduce stress

Stress creates crazy hormones and can wreak havoc on your skin. Take some time to really focus on reducing stress in your life. It’s different for everyone, and we’re all under different amounts of stress and pressure, but it’s something that everyone has to face. I’ve found that taking disciplined, dedicated time to meditate at least once per day for 20 minutes is a great way to balance the mind with the body and create a sense of inner calm, which reflects positively on skin. Whatever works for you – do it!

Exercise regularly

Exercise is non-negotiable for every aspect of health and wellbeing – even if it’s just a brisk daily walk. There’s huge benefits to be had and not heaps of effort, when you consider that there’s around 16 waking hours in every day. (Although I know it’s sometimes easier said than done!). Spending 30-60 minutes every day, or every other day, on exercise has a profound impact on the health of the body and mind, which shows up through glowing skin.

Eat fresh produce and reduce alcohol and caffeine intake

If you’ve ever done a sugar-free, dairy-free, meat-free, caffeine-free, alcohol-free detox, you’ll know what I’m talking about when I say that eating a lot of fresh produce and reducing toxins is the best thing that you can do for your skin. It will love you for it. I always drink green smoothies in the morning. Check out my favorite green smoothie recipe here. This is the easiest way to get the recommended intake of fruit and vegetables in your system every day – particularly if, like me, you’re often on the go. By reducing packaged foods and eating 80 per cent fresh produce, and reducing your alcohol intake, your skin will sparkle from the inside out.
