But I Just Wanna Workout!!!

I haven’t written in awhile because I’ve been sick with a cough/sore throat/cold combo. (Cue the pity party).

And I NEVER get sick. So you can bet I was not too happy to be sidelined for 2 weeks.

My weight pretty much stayed the same but I haven’t measured myself in months.(Do as I say and not as I do!)  I was more concerned I’d lose all the progress I had made, especially with my deadlifts.

But I woke up today feeling the best I had felt in awhile so I thought I’d just try a little lifting.

Well, as my brother put it so perfectly, “You probably don’t even know how to do a “little” workout.”

Truer words have never been spoken. This was MY idea of a light workout:

Barbell Back Squats – 75lbs

4 sets of 15 reps at 75lbs

Cable Facepulls -50lbs

Superset with DB Rear Delt Raises- 8lbs each

3 sets of 12 reps each

Split squats on bench with DB’s – 20lbs

2 sets of 10 reps each leg

(I started feeling a little fatigued at this point but figured it was just my legs. Switching back to the upper body would be fine…right?)

Barbell Standing Shoulder Presses – 30lbs

3 sets of 12-15reps

This is the part where I felt like I may be overdoing it. I normally would do upright rows and lateral raises here but thought I could just do the Lat Pulldown machine.

Lat Pulldown Machine – 48lbs and then 60lbs

3 sets (I think) total of 12-15 reps

I just wanted to finish up with ONE more exercise despite feeling tired.

Tricep dips on a bench, body weight only, legs straight

2 sets of 15 reps

I actually felt okay after this and thought, “Just one more exercise.”

So I found the Chest Press Machine, thinking, “This should be easy enough.”

I made it 1 and a half sets and immediately felt like I was going to puke.

I felt totally dizzy and lightheaded. Pretty sure if my body could speak at this point, it was shouting for me to say “STOP! I am SO not prepared for this!”  I have NEVER felt that awful from a workout in a long time.  I had to actually lie down on a bench in the locker room before driving home.

So…let this be a lesson to us all – At the FIRST sign of your body saying, “Danger! Danger!” just go home.

Next time, I’ll be sure a light day really means, LIGHT.

And by light I mean Leg Presses instead of Barbell Squats. ;)
