ZTE-Open-Firefox-SmartphoneChinese smartphone maker, ZTE has teamed up with Mozilla to launch the very first Firefox OS-powered smartphone, ZTE Open. During a press conference at MWC 2013, ZTE unveiled the new device, officially showing off the beauty of Firefox OS.

ZTE Open is a budget smartphone that comes with a 3.5-inch HVGA TFT display with 480 x 320 resolution, Cortex-A5 CPU, 256MB RAM, 512MB of storage and 3.2MP camera. Power of the new Firefox OS brings HTML5-based web apps and other cool features to this new smartphone.

Folks over at Engadget says that ZTE Open “felt like any low-end Android device”, although they were pretty impressed by the search function and the ability to tap into apps. This is only a start for Mozilla, and we will definitely see more high-end phones powering up with Firefox OS soon.

Spanish telecommunications provider Telefónica will bring the first Firefox smartphone to the market in mid-2013, followed by Venezuela and Colombia. Still no word on pricing details or U.S. availability.
