Your Most Important Marketing Opportunity

By Stacylrust

One of the many jobs of moms is to teach their children to say please and thank you.

I remember when I was younger sitting down after each birthday and writing thank-you notes to all of my relatives. (It wasn’t enough that my birthday was over and I had to wait another 365 days for it to come around again, now I had to think up things to say to everyone who sent me a card?)

We all know how important it is to show our loved ones our appreciation for the thoughtful things they do for us, but are you also thanking your customers?

And I don’t mean sending them to a generic “thank you” page after they purchase something from your website. I mean, really thanking them. Sitting down and thinking of something meaningful to say. Truly expressing your gratitude.

This is your easiest, most profitable way to create a loyal customer. Looking for insane ROI? Here it is.

A strong thank you will set you apart from your competition and help you instantly rise to the top of your customer’s mind. Be sincere. A genuine “thank you” with no call to action, no strings attached, will be a breathe of fresh air.

So sit down at your kitchen table and write your thank you note. Lucky for you, you don’t have to write a different one for each customer, you just have to write it from the heart. Let them know you truly appreciate their business.

Re-write your thank-you note every few months. Returning customers will notice and your words will hold more weight.

You can even take this one step further and involve your employees. If you own a service business, this is a huge opportunity to further the connection with your customers. When was the last time you received a thank you note from your stylist? Your hygienist? Chances are it would mean the difference between one sporadic appointment and lifelong loyalty.

Marketing is about establishing a genuine connection with your customers and opening lines of communication so you can be of better service. Creating an honest thank-you note, in my opinion, is one of the most essential pieces to a strong marketing platform. So as my mom would say, “sit down and get busy on those thank-yous”.
