April is usually a busy month for events, whether it’s bridal and baby showers, and then religious holidays and milestones. Today’s party, was the third styled event in April for The Dreamery, a 1st Holy Communion for a special brother and sister. It can be a challenge to decorate children parties for both genders. It’s about choosing colors that please both a young boy and girl, and forgoing patterns and textures, like glitter or swirls, that may come off too-girly. My client knew she wanted bright yellow tulips to highlight Spring, mixed with neutral hints of gray, and the rest was all up to me. The final look, a sweet and happy yellow 1st communion celebration as bright as the sunshine outdoors…
I wanted to keep things whimsical and detailed, yet very simple, like my client. The focal point of this intimate family gathering, was the dessert buffet set up just for the kids. Fun polka dot balloons with tassel garlands drew your eyes immediately to an array of cookies, colored M&M’s and brownie pops. The sweet spread was simply adorned with bright yellow tulip and craspedia arrangements to mimic the centerpieces.
The centerpieces were an interpretation of this whimsical yellow floral arrangement in rustic wooden boxes. I admit, my favorite part were the often overlooked mums, which become beautiful eye catchers in these modern inspired pieces.
The kids stuffed their favor bags with candies and sweet treats, while the adults were gifted with bottles of lemon essential oil adorned miniature rosary beads and a custom prayer tag.
