Yellow remains to be one of the trendiest colors right now, which is weird considering most women loathe this color. While yellow may not be a color you’re running to head-on, yellow accessories are definitely something that anyone can embrace, and you should. Yellow is one of the most versatile accessories around. Still not convinced that you should have yellow accessories? Read this post, in today’s Accessorized Five Ways, and you may think otherwise.
Yellow works with everything
Like its close cousin green, yellow is a very versatile accent color. Pick a color, any color, and yellow works with it. As you’ll see in the outfits below the color options that you can wear with yellow are practically limitless. Personally, I love yellow with navy, olive, teal, grey…wow, I really could go on and on. Having yellow accessories in your life will mean that you will get more look with less in your closet.
Yellow in small doses
Like you, I’m not rushing out the door to purchase a yellow dress, sweater or entire outfit in the color. It’s can be a tough color to wear. Despite it being known as a happy color and, fun fact, evokes concentration when looked at (this is why legal pads are yellow, by the way) it tends to make many women look sallow, washed out and jaundice. However, in small doses, yellow can be a very flattering accent. This is why I encourage all of you, if you want to embrace yellow, to do it via your accessories.
How to wear yellow accessories
Using this yellow pendant necklace from Stella & Dot, and styling it five ways, I am going to give you some great ideas for incorporating yellow accessories into your wardrobe. There is a good chance you own a lot of these colors already and, to give your outfits a little punch, will just have to purchase some yellow jewelry, shoes, a handbag, whatever you want. And be sure to check out the other yellow accessory suggestions at the end of this post.
Outfit #1- With grey
Turn on your JavaScript to view contentOne of Pantone’s colors for spring 2014 is Paloma Grey, a soft gray and not exactly a color one would associate with warm weather. However, what I believe about gray for summer is that it is a great base on which to pop fun colors, like yellow. Here I took this grey v-neck tunic top from Mango and popped it with this yellow necklace. Do you see how dull the top would be otherwise? Now the look is bright and cheery.
The outfit is finished with a pair of white jeans, gold sandals and a grey handbag.
Outfit #2- To pop a print
Turn on your JavaScript to view contentI saw this skirt from Topshop and I had to use it. Not only was I drawn in by the print but I liked the way the yellow in nowhere near the face. What I also like is the skirt has tan and black in it, making it very versatile. Instead of pairing this skirt with a yellow top, a choice few women would make, I brought the yellow upwards with the necklace and styled the skirt with this ivory Reiss top.
The outfit is finished with a yellow handbag from Steve Madden, gold bangles and Jessica Simpson peep toe nude pumps. Sidenote: if you’re looking to pop an outfit with yellow, a yellow handbag is always a good choice.
Outfit #3- With navy
Turn on your JavaScript to view contentAs I said earlier, I love navy with yellow and I love this navy Modcloth maxi dress. I love it even more with the necklace placed in the neckline. To give this outfit a bit of a dressed up look (this maxi would certainly look great casually) I added this printed clutch from Hobo and a pair of yellow wedges from Nine West.
Outfit #4- With green
Turn on your JavaScript to view contentAnother color I love with yellow is green. Solid green is certainly the more versatile option but I chose this green printed dress from Taylor to show that even as a green print this necklace works. What you want to do is bring in balance and this is why I chose this Marc by Marc Jacobs cross body bag. For shoes, I went with a white wedge from UGG.
Outfit #5- With coral
Turn on your JavaScript to view contentI definitely pushed the envelope with this outfit. I wanted to show how well yellow works with coral and chose this top from Boden…and then I found these scarf printed pants from Mango. Okay, they’re not everyone’s flavor, I admit, but they are fun. Certainly you could wear this top and necklace with solid colored pants, like white jeans, denim, black, olive, khaki, and so on. With these pants I was really able to play with color and, as you can see, all of these colors work with yellow and the necklace brings it all together. I chose a yellow pair of sandals, a blue Vince Camuto handbag and used those gold bangles again.
