Yangon (ရန်ကုန်) is a former capital of Myanmar, and the capital of Yangon Region. Yangon is the country’s largest city with a population of over five million, and is the most important commercial centre, although the military government officially relocated the capital to Naypyidaw in March 2006.
Although Yangon’s infrastructure is undeveloped compared to those of other major cities in Southeast Asia, it has the largest number of colonial buildings in the region today.
While many high-rise residential and commercial buildings have been constructed or renovated throughout downtown and Greater Yangon in the past two decades, most satellite towns that ring the city continue to be deeply impoverished.

今や経済活況著しいミャンマー連邦共和国のかつての首都，ヤンゴンの街並みです。
2006年に政治的中心がネピドーに移され首都の地位を失っても，今なおミャンマー連邦共和国の経済の中心地として揺るがぬ地位にあります。
海外からの新興国投資がさかんで不動産が著しく高騰しているヤンゴンですが，その反面，英連邦植民地時代に建築されたコロニアルな建築物が街中の至る所に見受けられます。
また，通りには日本車中古車両バスや，レトロな趣のある小型バスがひっきりなしに走り，それを眺めているだけでも飽きません。
ヤンゴン川の河港に足を伸ばせば，そこには渡し船が溢れ，東南アジアらしい風景を見ることが出来ます。
