Yahoo seems to be surrendering to Google as they have now officially shut down its’ email service in China.

The login page now redirects all Yahoo Mail users in China to Alimail, which is owned by Alibaba company. Yahoo has 20% ownership over this company and recently announced its’ plans to move its’ users to Alibaba mail. TechnoBuffalo mentions that the company may be trying to improve Alibaba services since they have invested a lot in this company. Despite these events, the other Yahoo services like Search and Flickr appears to work fine in the country.

It’s highly unlikely for Yahoo to completely shut down the email service across the globe. Clearly they are still making profit out of the service. Although, ever since Marissa Mayer the took command of the company, she did some pretty surprising things and invested a lot on dying online services. Who knows what she plans to do next.
