The popular web browser Rockmelt is one of the unique browsers that helped Facebook and Twitter fans to share, update and be more socially active on the web easier than any other browser. Despite its cool features, the browser never made big success and only reached out to about 4 million users. And now the failed four-and-a-half-year-old startup has been acquired by Yahoo.

“Yahoo! and Rockmelt share a common goal: To help people discover the best content from around the web. “ The Rockmelt team announced the news via their blog, hinting at what Yahoo plans on doing with the company.

According to AllThingsD, this deal has cost Yahoo about $70 million and they plans to earn it back by “using its technology to turbocharge [Yahoo's] myriad of media and mobile properties”. After the acquisition, The Rockmelt has stopped accepting new users as it’s now scheduled to shut down the browser and other apps on August 31, 2013. Current users will have to use the remaining days to export their bookmarks and feeds before it shuts down.
