Originally Microsoft wanted to control Xbox One games to the degree that you would be restricted from lending, sharing, reselling or renting games. For many, myself included, that was a deal breaker. I will not buy a system that prevents me from taking my game to my brother’s Xbox and playing it. Once a game is purchased it is the property of the individual purchasing it and that individual is free to resell, trade, lend or do whatever they wish with their own property. It was clear that the restrictions were designed purely so that Xbox can make more money.
Today Microsoft has announced “Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.”
This was an absolute requirement for me to be willing to purchase an Xbox One. I will not buy a console which requires me to purchase new games. The price on new games is pretty ridiculous at times. Yeah I will buy game I care about new but it is much more reasonable to buy a used game overall.
I for one am glad Microsoft reversed its decision.
