Wynkoop’s 2nd Annual Day of Dorks: Recap

Saturday, March 10th was the Second Annual Day of Dorks at Wynkoop Brewing Co.. Over 30 breweries (including cideries and meaderies) were in attendance, pouring some of the best beers around. I’ve attended Day of Dorks for the last 2 years, and it’s always a fun time: great beer, nerdy spectacles, beaker tasting glasses, and people handing out Nerds, Smarties and Dum Dums. Wynkoop sure knows how to put on a beer fest, and they also know a lot about giving back to the community.

At Day of Dorks, it’s cool to be nerdy!

For this sold out event, Wynkoop asked attendees to bring school supplies to benefit Roots Elementary, a new charter school in Denver. And in addition to all the supplies they collected, they’ve also spent the month of March raising money for Dora Moore School through Charity Tap. For the Charity Tap program, Wynkoop dedicates one tap to a local charity and donates $1 from every beer sold to the selected organization. The charity brews rotate monthly and are named for the partner of the month. I love supporting local breweries, and it’s even better when they, in turn, support other local organizations.

OK, so what about the beer?! As you might imagine, I had a few favorites at Day of Dorks. My #1 absolute favorite beer this year was Mexican Chocolate Yeti from Great Divide Brewing Company, a limited release beer, part of Great Divide’s Local Knowledge series. Yeti (in all its forms) is a standard fave of mine, but add Cholaca liquid cocoa, vanilla, coffee and spices, and WHOA! This beer is amazing!

Others I enjoyed are: Drunk Uncle Nick Red Wine Barrel-Aged Barleywine from Beryl’s, Barrel-Aged Cinnamon Oil Man from Elevation, Warning Label Xtra Hopped IPA from Wynkoop, and Berliner Weisse on Blackberries from Westbound and Down. Of course, there were tons of other fantastic beers at Day of Dorks, but these few topped my list.

The Third Annual Day of Dorks will be in March 2019, but keep your eyes peeled for info, as it will sell out. Don’t miss out next time!
