The month of June started yesterday and our Blog Hopping has started along with it. Yesterday, Jo Linsdell kicked off our hopping by hosting a blog on the topic “Which book do you wish you had written?” We had fun discussing the topic and many readers commented with their views. Today Eline is hosting us on her blog lovelyaudiobooks.info with the topic “Would you or do you choose a book solely by the cover?”

When readers become writers, a lot of things change in the perception towards books. Readers only focus on entertainment. As long as a book entertains us, we are happy with the book and the author. We finish the book on a high note, and go on to the next haul.

But when the same readers become writers, the reading experience changes completely. Every book becomes a lesson in writing. The scene structuring, dialog writing, toggle between first person and third person, setting up the pace of the story – every author teaches something new. These lessons are carried on to our writing in one way or the other.

The book covers too have something to teach us. When I talk to authors on their journey through a book, they put special emphasis on selecting a book cover which embodies the story. Afterall, a picture does speak a thousand words. Many try to speak the book’s story through it’s cover. But some go out of the way and get a cover which speaks in riddles and not give out the story. The study of cover pages and comparing them to the stories is a leisure activity I enjoy doing, whenever possible.

The Summer Hop today is on this topic. Join the fun at Eline’s blog ‘lovelyaudiobooks.info‘ on the topic “Would you or do you choose a book solely by the cover?” We have Eline herself sharing her thoughts on whether the book cover influence her decision to read a book or not.

There are a few other bloggers sharing their opinion on the influence a cover has over the readers. Jo Linsdell, Becki Svare (abookloversadventure), Brandy Potter (brandypotterbooks), Kim (writersideoflife) and Fee (ebookaddicts) make the discussion lively and interesting, at the same time setting a base for the readers to share their thoughts on the topic.

Do check out the discussion and thoughts shared by the bloggers and the readers by clicking on the link “Would you or do you choose a book solely by the cover?” Tomorrow, we shall be camping on Fee’s blog eBookAddicts.net, discussing “Do you review all of the books you read?” Stay tuned for the link tomorrow.
