The multinational computer innovator, Microsoft is now reportedly preparing to enter the business of building smartphones, after successfully launching its’ first tablet, Surface.

According to a recent report by Wall Street Journal, Microsoft is already teaming up with Asian component suppliers to test their own smartphone design. Microsoft must be feeling a little left out when they see their rivals, Apple and Google introduce new smartphone and tablets. Obviously this could be the Microsoft’s way of taking the battle against Apple and Google to the next level.

I haven’t had a chance to try out the Surface tablet, but according to most of the reports, it’s starting to look pretty good with Windows 8 running inside. Combining the success of their first physical device with this new smartphone plan could be a good idea for Microsoft to revive the falling company.

Although, there are a lot of smartphones out there that runs on the latest Windows Phone operating system. So, the company would have to come up with something unique to make a difference in the smartphone market. My best guess for a Microsoft smartphone would be a device with a 4.8-inch display powered by an Intel Core 2 Extreme quad-core processor or better, 2GB of RAM and possibly a modified version of Windows Phone 8.

What do you think? Even if you get a smartphone with all the mentioned specs, would you choose it over other latest smartphones like iPhone 5 or Nexus 4? Let’s start a conversation  Share your thoughts in the comments sections.
