Worth the Wait

Every girl dreams of her wedding day: the perfect man, the perfect dress, and the perfect ring. Z and I had picked out the most amazing Neil Lane engagement ring but at the time, we hadn't thought about the wedding band. We figured we had time and that we would worry about it down the road. Well because the Army won't allow living together unless you're married, we pushed our wedding up so that I could live with him wherever he was stationed. We were married by a reverend, during an intimate ceremony with just our parents, and had planned to celebrate on a larger scale later that year.

Our wedding day

Unfortunately for us, the Army had other plans. They slapped deployment orders on Z one month after we were married and we were forced to cancel our wedding celebration plans. We decided we would reschedule it for the summer after his return, but because the Army can never give us a definite answer, we weren't sure he would be home in time! Kind of need the groom there... might be important, don't you think?
The whole reason we had put off getting my wedding band until recently was because it needed to be custom designed and Zach wanted to be there for it. He had originally wanted to design it himself using diamonds we received from a family heirloom, but after talking with Kay Jewelers, we discovered that wouldn't be an option. The diamonds were so particular in my engagement ring that they would need to be matched perfectly at their shop using their diamonds.

In the end, I am SO glad we waited until he could be there with me when we sent it away for design, had it set, and picked it up. The smile on my face and his excitement to see me that happy is truly one of those moments you never forget.

I am so thrilled to finally wear this sign of forever on my finger. My engagement ring means so much to me but finally having my wedding band just brings it all together. When you have a baby, it's easy to get caught up in caring for the baby and putting your own wants and needs on the back burner. This is such a fabulous reminder that our love was what started it all and how lucky I am to have this amazing man next to me for the rest of my life.
