Green Kids Crafts is a subscription box service delivering your little one fun crafts and activities each month for only $19.50 (includes free shipping). The company was founded by both mom and environmentalist, Penny Bauders, who sought sustainable crafts that would bring children closer to nature. Green Kids Crafts is unique from other craft subscription boxes as they are commitmed to using only sustainable and green materials in each of their expert panel approved boxes. They are certified carbon neutral, Green America Approved, and a member of 1% for the Planet so one can clearly see that social responsibility and keeping green are at the center of their business. Crafts for children can often be wasteful and far from eco-friendly but Green Kids Crafts allows your little one to have fun creating without the waste by using recyclable shipping materials as well as containing their crafts projects in plant-based, compostable cello bags. They also replace typical crafting supplies such as plastics and foam with natural materials.
I recently had the opportunity to review the “Food Adventure” Discovery Box with my daughter. Thisbox definitely packs enough fun activities into it to last your little one all month long. The boxcontained three feature crafts, which were a fishing game, an organic sprout and basil garden, and a ceramic tile coaster. I really like that all of these activities are sustainable and will be used over and over again! The box also included an Annie’s snack, high value organic coupons, and a small recipe book filled with delicious ideas. All activities were appropriate for a girl or boy as well as any age (I had a lot of fun helping my daughter with the crafts too!). Each feature craft comes with a set of easy to follow instructions and a bonus activity on the backside of the paper. This gives your child three additional activities to enjoy! Our bonus activities were a coloring page, a matching game, and a gratitude tree. This is such a great idea because it makes complete use of all paper and helps avoid you tossing it in the trash when finished.
Fishing Game
The fishing game consisted of a fish template, multi-colored felt, velcro, elastic, washer, and a pencil. The only extra items needed to complete this activity were scissors and a dark colored marker. My daughter traced the fish template onto each of the felt pieces and then cut them all out (I had to help a little as the felt was too thick for child scissors). Then we made a simple knot on the end of the pencil and attached the washer and velcro. We had so much fun playing this fishing game where we numbered each fish and tried to catch them in numerical order!
Organic Basil and Sprout Garden
My daughter was most excited about this gardening activity which included organic basil and alfalfa seeds, cheesecloth, a rubberband, a peat pot, and eco plant based cups. This is a fantastic activity because it is something my daughter not only enjoyed in the moment but has since been able to check each day with excitement as she watches the little seedlings grow. It will also eventually be something that is totally edible as my little girl will be able to taste these yummy, organic herbs!
Ceramic Tile Coaster
This craft included beautiful ceramic tiles in assorted colors, glue, and fiberboard. It was so much fun for my daughter as she organized and tried out different patterns with the colorful tiles. She ended up using her tile coaster to place her basil plant on.
Green Kids Crafts Discovery Box Subscriptions are definitely worth checking out if your child likes hand on activities and crafts. I love the idea of having new and fun activities delivered to my doorstep each month. I also like that Green Kids Crafts takes the guessing work out of finding earth friendly, natural, entertaining crafts for my little girl. I have not seen any other company offering boxes like this that can be enjoyed by everyone in the family and I absolutely recommend it!
