Instead of cursing this extra long winter, take advantage of every minimal dark electronic track you can, like “Follow Me” from Illitry. Because the trio is native to Ontario, they know a thing or two about the freezing cold. They also know barren — the number of singles they’ve released this past year is as less than the number of people hoping the groundhog would see his shadow. Fortunately, each of the releases is carefully crafted with the right amount of synth, reverbed guitar and poignant lyrics that slowly thaw the soul before it ices over again.

The minimalism is almost reminiscent of Wet, another band that knows how to find the perfect words to crack you open and spill your soul all over the floor. Illitry, though, breaks up slow chug and shift of beats with a flood of cymbals and harmonies to release the tension. Their debut album is due out this fall, so stay tuned for more previews. Until then, you can name your price for “Follow Me” on bandcamp.
