World Book Day

World Book Day We are excited about celebrating the World Book Day on Thursday. It is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading and it is marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
Each year, Defne's school ask children to dress up as a favorite character. She dressed up as Matilda last year and as Winnie the Witch the year before.
There is a parade in the playground so parents get to see the other children, too. It is lovely to see all the creative costumes that children wear.
I recently received a survey* about children's favorite book characters and it turns out that Harry Potter is the top character for the World Book Day.
I remember there were quite a few Harry Potters in last years' parades. My children are not introduced to Harry Potter yet but one of their favorite, Gruffalo is the second character according to the survey. Gruffalo is followed by Peter Pan and then comes Noddy, Peppa Pig and Thomas the Tank Engine.
Defne has decided that she wants to dress up as the Cat in the Hat. Derin is not so keen on dressing up but he will enjoy a library trip with his preschool.
These activities are brilliant for the children to learn about new characters and foster a love of reading. Are your children dressing up? If so,I would love to learn about their favorite characters.
Don't forget to check out the World Book Day website for online stories, activities and much more!
