Work Friend Brings Rejuvenation with New Single ‘any Good’ [stream]

Work Friend began as the solo project of The Hicks Canyon Band’s lead singer, Spencer Hannemann, and has turned into a rebirth of the whole band itself. Their first single, “Any Good”, echoes this theme of rejuvenation in sentiment and sound. A tale of a frustrating relationship wrapped a swirl of gentle indie rock the likes of Gaslight Anthem and The National, the song churns around a longing chorus in which Hannemann reflects on this particular relationship in his soft raspy voice. Finding the sweet spot between summer and melancholy, “Any Good” floats around driving guitar chords and sunny guitar melodies that build to a frenetic and triumphant end that sees Hanneman “waiting on [his] next epiphany.” Work Friend’s debut album, Slouching, is out October 16th.
