In all honesty, I don't feel conscious of any significant latency between what my head comes up with and the way my hands react on the instrument, so it sometimes *feels* like the head and hands are working more as a team, as opposed to one waiting for the other... but I'm confident that the 'head' part of the process *must* be what comes first.
