Last week I showed you a lovely image of a girl reading, painted by Sir JohnLavery. Here's another of his portraits, this time of his second wife, called Mrs Lavery Sketching. This one was painted in 1910, a year after he had married Hazel Martyn, who is described on Wikipedia as an Irish-American known for her beauty and poise. She certainly looks very pretty here, and he apparently painted her at least 400 times, including a portrait as the personification of Ireland which appeared for decades on Irish banknotes. Quite an achievement for a girl who was born in Chicago! I suspect you'll be seeing more of her on here before too long.
