Wolfie’s Just Fine’s ‘It’s a Job’ is as Fantastical as it is Grounded [Video]

Though Jon Lajoie is a comedic YouTube sensation, his alternative, indie-folk musical project, Wolfie’s Just Fine, is a step away from the humorous genre. The debut album, I Remembered But then I Forgot, is an ode to childhood wonder, bittersweet nostalgia and the ephemeral nature of recollection. Lajoie encapsulates all of these experiences in the lead track, “It’s a Job”. Using layered harmonies and a strumming guitar, “It’s a Job” eases us into the subtly profound lyrics that describe the walls we build around ourselves and the lies we tell to get by.

What makes this track even more humbly introspective is the use of childlike imagery in the music video, which portrays a young boy rallying an army of fantastical creatures to face his fears (but only in the end does he realize he has the courage to fight the battle alone). “It’s a Job” not only demonstrates Lajoie’s versatility as an artist and performer, but it also encourages us to let our guard down and discover our own strength.
