UK multi-instrumentalist Danny Trew Barton aka Wolf Solent strikes again with EP//2, another collection of fuzzy home recordings. Barton keeps it short. Why ruin a good idea when all can be said and done in about two minutes? The only track that gets close to the three minutes mark is the brooding No Sunshine, a psychedelic shoegaze showcase with a bits of the Doors' organ sound, Barrett-era Floyd and the wall of sound of The Jesus and Mary Chain. In Rain with its plethora of sound effects deserves to be included in the soundtrack of Tim Burton horror movie. Hold is a freak folk song with its instantly hummable chorus that could have been recorded by Robyn Hitchcock or Beck.
Wolf Solent is not for the squeamish. Fans of adventurous lo-fi will love it.
EP//2 is released om Sea Records. Limited edition CD (150 copies) in silkscreen sleeve. Release date March 23rd.
