With Donald Trump reeling from the E. Jean Carroll verdict, his niece Mary Trump plans a nationwide tour to help take her message of resistance to the public

A New York jury's verdict on Friday (1/25/24)  that 2024 Republican frontrunner Donald Trump must pay writer E. Jean Carroll $83 million for defaming her a second time probably is one of the first times the former president has faced consequences for wrongdoing, according to a post from his niece, Mary L. Trump, who is a psychologist  and author at Substack. Mary Trump is strongly opposed to her uncle returning to the presidency, and on her page at Substack, she writes:

Today is one of the worst days in Donald’s life, and one of the best days for justice.

One thing is certain: E. Jean Carroll is the bravest person I have ever known.

The trial today started with drama as Donald reportedly stormed out of the courtroom while E. Jean’s attorney, Robbie Kaplan, was delivering her closing argument.

Once again, Donald proves he has the self-control of a toddler.

Mary Trump calls the verdict breathtaking:

After deliberating for just under three hours, the jury found Donald liable for damages as follows:

-$7.3 million in compensatory damages

-$11 million to repair E.Jean’s reputation

-$65 million in punitive damages

What is going through Donald Trump's mind in the aftermath of the massive jury award for Carroll? Mary Trump probably can answer that question about as accurately as anyone. She writes:

I know Donald, and rage—one of the few emotions in his arsenal—is not a strong enough word to describe what he’s feeling.

Donald is someone who has gone his entire life without facing consequences - and I believe he thinks he can get away with everything.

Today, that changed. It was one of the first times Donald has been made to answer for his egregious behavior.

What does the road ahead look like for Donald Trump? National Public Radio (NPR) provides insights:

Despite the size of the penalty, the verdict was not unexpected. Judge Lewis Kaplan ruled even before the trial that Trump had in fact defamed Carroll. The jury only had to decide how much Trump owed her — not if he was liable. This is the second time Trump has been ordered to pay Carroll; last year he was mandated by a jury to pay $5 million for a separate instance of defamation.

In response, the Trump 2024 campaign issued a statement arguing, without offering evidence, that the trial is a "political weapon."

"Absolutely ridiculous!" said the statement. "I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden- Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party."

The jury's decision comes just days after Trump won the New Hampshire primary and became the GOP frontrunner. The case is one of several involving Trump, who is also awaiting a verdict in a civil trial that could result in him paying at least $250 million to New York state for his business practices, which have been deemed by a judge to be fraudulent.

He could also be prohibited from doing business in the state where he made his name as a real-estate mogul. In all, Trump faces 91 charges in federal and state trials, ranging from the ones in New York to those at the federal level related to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Mary Trump plans to expand her efforts to keep her uncle out of the White House -- and she says the Carroll verdict might lead to more legal travails for her uncle:

The E. Jean Carroll verdict is so important. Not only because E. Jean, supported the whole way by her extraordinary legal team led by the brilliant Robbie Kaplan, deserved justice — and got it — but because it gives me hope that the dam is beginning to break, and Donald is finally facing the consequences of his actions. Let’s celebrate, but let’s make sure that this is simply the first of many moments in which Donald is forced to face the consequences of his actions.

I have no doubt there are many other of Donald’s victims out there, and E. Jean Carroll, because of her courage and resolve, has been the leading edge of this fight.

Let’s get news of her victory to all corners of the country so other women can be inspired to come forward.

They are out there and deserve justice too.

P.S. Please support E. Jean as well, at this link! She has a brilliant Substack called “Ask E. Jean”.

What do Mary Trump's resistance efforts entail? Part of it is research. She writes:

Inspiring Data: Low turnoutDespite the fact that high turnout was predicted for the 2024 Iowa caucuses, turnout was very low, with only 110,000 voters participating – one of the lowest turnouts in 24 years. In comparison, nearly 187,000 GOP voters participated in 2016.The 110,000 voters who showed up account for less than 15 percent of Iowa's 752,000 registered Republicans.

Significant: 49% of Caucusing Republicans did NOT choose Donald

Sure, Donald won Iowa, but almost 50% of Republican voters who bothered to show up for the caucus chose someone else. And in case you think all these voters would turn around and vote for Donald in the general election if he’s the nominee, note this: Almost half of Nikki Haley’s supporters say they would vote for Biden over Trump, according to a new poll

Even more good news

Highly regarded political strategist Simon Rosenberg agreed, highlighting the fact that Donald is “weak, not strong”

Here is Rosenberg's summary:

– 35% to 40% of Republicans are NOT supporting Donald nationally.

– The majority of Republicans are NOT with Donald in the early states.

– The GOP has meaningfully splintered.

– Donald is polling at “Olympian negatives,” making it impossible for him to win the general election.

To me, this data shows good news: AMERICANS are not monsters; people in both parties are running away from Donald.
What about details of Mary Trump's resistance efforts? Here is a brief look at her plans, and more information can be obtained at this link:

So… It’s GO time

I’m launching a nationwide campaign designed to:

1. Get your friends and family to the polls
2. Win over swing voters
3. Wake up Republicans, who are currently lukewarm on Donald, to the point where they are so informed (and thus horrified) that they just can’t bring themselves to vote for Donald or any one of his fascist enablers.

Here’s just a peek into the tour:

• Launching a swing-state Speaking Tour, with special guests (and maybe even surprise appearances by the Nerd Avengers)!
• Tripling my media appearances.
• Interviewing amazing Deep Dive guests to help me motivate voters to get to the polls.
• Starting a new YouTube channel, to amplify our message of hope and possibility for positive change.
• Promoting exciting candidates who will help us take back the House.
• And much more to come…

Hitting the road and ramping up our efforts worked in 2020. It’s even more urgent now. We need to go bigger.

America remains on a knife’s edge between democracy and fascism. There is too much at stake to pretend otherwise.

I don’t often ask directly, but booking venues, getting good video equipment, and hiring a support team all require resources.

The more support I get from you, the more able I’ll be to spread the truth where it matters most.

Will you help me kick off my 2024 tour, by upgrading now for the price of a coffee?

More details about joining our effort are available at this link:

THANK YOU for your support, and for being with me on this journey! – Mary
