Life can get hard enough without style and getting dressed being added to the turmoil. Seriously, don’t you have more pressing problems to solve than worrying about what you are going to wear in the morning? Yet, millions of women deal with what to wear on a daily basis and it one of the main reasons I work with women and write this blog, to make fashion easy so everyone can focus on the more important things in life…while looking good.
One of the best ways to look good in what you are wearing regularly is to have clothing and accessories on hand that are versatile, that need little effort to look good and that you can just grab and go. I’ve talked a lot about these no-fuss items in the past, like metallic sandals or flats, a gold necklace and a tan handbag, and today I want to talk about why a green handbag is another great piece to have on hand.
Why is green so versatile?
I have written about the merits of green many times before. However, if you are new to this blog, I will quickly cover this again. Green has often been called a colored neutral, meaning that it is a color that will work well with just about any color it is paired with. Think about it, aside from red (which does work, but only in a seasonal way), green as an accent color is flattering with whatever color you are wearing. As I like to say, “When in doubt, go green.” If you want to buy a pop color in a handbag, but also don’t want to be limited in how you can use it or want to be able to grab it with just about anything you are wearing, you can’t go wrong with green.
Green as a handbag shade works
Green as a handbag shade is a great solution for those who don’t like the color anywhere near the face. While the color is pretty universal in use, not everyone looks good in it. Certainly there is a green shade for everyone out there but, despite this, it still may not be a color you want to wear. A green handbag is great because it adds a pop to an outfit without a huge commitment to the color.
Pick a shade, any shade
My personal green shade as an accent color is a bright grassy green. It all started when I bought this Kate Spade handbag in bright green and noticed that I could use it with just about anything I was wearing. However, if this shade of green doesn’t work for you, or if you just plain hate it, you can get the same level of versatility from a green bag in any shade, from olive to mint.
How to use your green handbag
Below are five outfits using the same leaf green handbag from Ann Klein, to show you just how versatile this color can be.
Outfit #1
Navy and green is one of my favorite color combinations. I just love the way the bright green pops off of the deep, rich navy. In this outfit, I took this bag to the office by using a navy Reiss dress. Finishing the look, I added a pair of gold earrings from Max & Chloe and this stunning pair of Manolo Blahniks. Okay, I know, not everyone has the budget for these shoes. If you would have to sell a kidney to afford them, you can certainly go with a less expensive pair of navy or nude shoes and still look great. When I saw those shoes I couldn’t resist using them. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go and Google “How to sell a kidney.”
Outfit #2
I think we all want a bag that can go from work to weekends. As bag obsessed as many of us can get, it all comes down to function. In this outfit I am taking this bag from your work commute and adding it to a simple weekend look of a comfortable boyfriend sweater from J. Crew, a pair of high-rise skinny jeans, flat grey booties from Frye and some gold jewelry consisting of a pair of gold stud earrings and a bangle bracelet from Ann Taylor.

Another favorite color combination of mine is burgundy and bright green. Like navy, I love the way the green pops off the rich hue of the wine color. In fact, when I was in high school I had a chartreuse cotton turtleneck that I would wear with a burgundy cardigan. See proof below.

In this outfit, the green works as a pop when paired with a wine colored blazer from Boden. That’s right, you’re not limited to an all-neutral wardrobe when you have a colorful bag, especially when the bag is green. The outfit is complete with a slim pair of black ankle length pants from J. Crew, oxford flats, white long sleeve t-shirt and black pyramid stone necklace.
Outfit #4
Speaking of color, this outfit is anything but colorless. Teal and bright green is gorgeous and pink and green certainly work together. This outfit is comprised of a teal cardigan from Modcloth, a pink v-neck t-shirt from Boden, a pair of khaki pants and a pair of printed flats from Anthropologie. To finish the outfit I added a pair of pink drop earrings from Max & Chloe. If your casual looks feel boring, consider infusing your looks with more exciting color combinations.
Outfit #5
The other thing I like about green is it can work with prints, even if there is no green found in the colors. Take, for example, the way this green handbag is working with this coral print found in this patterned pullover from Anthropologie. While there may be small traces of green in it, it is predominantly coral, yet the handbag still works. Before you do a bag change when wearing a print, test it with your green bag first. This outfit is casually styled using a pair of boyfriend jeans, a Stella & Dot bracelet and gold flats.
The biggest secret that stylish people know is how to get the most out of what they buy and to purchase versatile things that will make getting dressed easy. Being stylish shouldn’t be hard, and with a green handbag in your wardrobe you will definitely take another giant step towards ease of style for yourself.
