Why Tumblr Isn’t a Microblogging Platform Anymore

Posted on the 31 December 2012 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

I’ve been using Tumblr for almost two years now. After posting hundreds of interesting and unique photos, links, stories and following over one hundred blogs you’re not gonna believe that I only have 12 followers on the network so far. And yes, I followed all the protocols too.  I’ve followed other blogs, reblogged their posts, kept my blog up to date and I’ve even tried promoting as well. But none of these worked. Why? Because I never posted naked photos of random girls. This made me realize that Tumblr is not a microblogging platform anymore.

I know, most of those Tumblers with a huge number of followers will strongly disagree with me. But, just take a moment and ask yourself, what have you been doing there to attract attention to your blog?

Have you been reblogging and filling up your blog with half-naked photos, or just random animated GIF’s or other pathetic meme’s that people shares these days? Or do you just satisfy yourself with a few random likes that you get once in a while?

Whether you like to believe it or not, Tumblr is already dead. Now it’s more like Pinterest, where people only share photos, mostly naked ones. My blog is filled with different types of posts including text, questions, videos, links and photos. But, all of those posts were barely noticed by someone, except for my photos.  Actually, photos attracts a lot of attention on Tumblr. This one time I tried posting a half-naked photo of a women. And it got reblogged over 60  times within just a couple of days.

I joined Tumblr to connect with other people, share my thoughts, ideas. But instead I got trapped inside a platform full of naked photos, quotes and people who are addicted to increasing their number of followers.

As a part of my 2013 new year’s resolution I’m getting rid of a few non-useful social networks, and Tumblr is on the top of my list. Why am I saying all this? Well, I think it’s time for all of you to think about what you’re doing on Tumblr. Are you really using it to connect with people, share your ideas? Or are you just using it for sharing funny and naked pics, like we do on 9GAG and Pinterest
