Why Should You Wait for GoPro Hero 8?

By Travelrasoi @travelrasoi

Go Pro had no real competition in the premium action camera sector, then suddenly DJI Osmo Action came along. It sold a bunch of its action cameras. Now Go Pro monopoly is at stakes, and we are here to speculate what GoPro Hero 8 Black have for us.

Go Pro Hero 8 is the successor to the much-loved Hero 7 Black and is expected to be released in late 2019. Here are all the latest rumors about the Go Pro Hero 8 black in one place.

Price and Release Date:

Traditional Go Pro announces its flagship action camera in late September. It is very less likely that they will change it this time. It looks like that Go Pro will refresh the whole lineup, i.e., Silver, White and Black. This is based on the CEO Nick Woodman quote in the company’s Q1 earnings call in May 2019.

Coming to the price, it would be interesting to see how Go Pro responds to DJI’s aggressive pricing. DJI Osmo Action is priced at £329, which is £50 cheaper than the launch price of Hero 7 black. You can expect Go Pro to reduce its price and be closer to the £319 to counter-attack on the Osmo Action.

What will the new Go Pro Hero 8 black look like?

Till now, there hasn’t been any leaked photo for the action camera. It seems like Go Pro wouldn’t make any radical changes to the design, which is iconic and has proven to be waterproof and tough.

One feature we are sure that won’t happen is the awesome color display on the front of Osmo Action for vlogging. Go Pro wouldn’t upgrade to monochrome equivalent at least for Hero 8.

But we would see some edge-to-edge rear screen and internal upgrades. Another issue that Go Pro will face is to give Hero 8 Black GP2 processor. As many experts believe that GP1 still has performance gains in him.

We also expect Hero 8 to have HDR videos to compete with DJI Osmo Action and add image stabilization for better quality. This would be a welcome upgrade which many users want.

Extra features in Go Pro Hero 8:

Some internal sources from Go Pro suggest that the company is working on an improved stabilization in low light, a 960fps slow-motion mode and an external microphone (not a Bluetooth).

We also believe that there will be an improvement to the video framerates. This will give users more creative options, including 4k at 120 fps, this would trump the Osmo Action’s which has a maximum option of 4k at 0 fps.

What is the GoPro Hero 8 Black early verdict?

Till now we haven’t received any leaks about the Hero 8 black, so it is difficult to make any big conclusion about what Go Pro has in store for us. However, we are certain that Go Pro will have some tricks up its sleeves to counter the impressive DJI Osmo Action. We believe Go Pro Hero 8 will dominate the market as there isn’t much difference between Hero 7 Black and Osmo Action.

So, if you are looking to buy a new action camera, we would recommend you to wait as the Go Pro Hero 8 black will have added feature over the Osmo action, you will have access to more polished apps and larger range of third-party accessories. On top of this, the price will be definitely less than Hero 7 black, and we would have a new market king in action camera in September 2019.
