By Travelrasoi @travelrasoi

The Lenovo Legion Y740 comes with stealthy looks and excellent performance. Can it make an impact on the laptop industry? Before moving on to that, we like to mention that Intel has come out with 2 10th generation CPU.

These 2 are lined up for next year and may cause a lot of confusion in the market. Meanwhile, the Lenovo Legion Y740 comes with the 9th generation that is good enough for its gamers. That is not surprising because several makers like Dell and Asus have produced powerful laptops.

Today, we will take a look at the Lenovo Legion Y740 that comes with decent features of per-key RGB backlit keyboard, a G-Sync display, and Intel CPU. Should you go ahead and buy it. Well, read on to find out.

Lenovo Legion Y740 design

The Lenovo Legion Y740 design is bland, and that is good. In a sense, several manufacturers come out with flashy gaming laptops. Well, that can be a massive put off. Lenovo is moving in the right direction away from the aggressive design.

The chassis is made using aluminum and is sturdy. The lid provides ample protection for the display. The LEDs are placed such that there is only a subtle glow. The ports on the laptop are placed on the back.

The headphone/microphone combo port offers you with excellent support. Their is no SD card slot, that is surprising to say the least. The makers should give it thought next time.

The 15.6-inch display is ideal for gaming, and the IPS panel comes with a full-HD resolution (1920×1080). However, the webcam is placed quite awkward that we found annoying for video chatting purposes.

The keyboard area is functional, and the spacing between the keys is alright. Users can efficiently work on them without much hassle. You can find individual trackpad buttons on the laptop.

The laptop is quite heavy at 2.2kgs, which can frustrate frequent travelers.

Lenovo Legion Y740 specifications and software

The Legion Y740 comes with the Intel Core i7-9750H CPU. The clock speed ranges from 2.6GHz to 4.5GHz. With 2, 8 GB modules, the 16GB DDR4 RAM runs in a dual-channel mode. Some programs are pre-installed on the laptop.

There is the Vantage app that gives you the ability to keep your programs up to date. For example, you can control the RAM, CPU, GPU, and storage usage. Not to mention, you can change the battery profiles and program the macro keys.

Lenovo Legion Y740 performance and battery life

The Legion Y740 works on Windows effortlessly. The booting speeds, read, and write speeds are reasonable. Apart from that, the 144Hz screen refresh rate offers you with immense power. The screen is excellent and provides you with clear images.

The brightness and viewing are exceptional. Though there is some backlight bleeding, it is not that obvious for the viewer. The speakers come with good volume, though it can be slightly distorted on time.

The battery is satisfactory, not that good. The keyboard can get warm quickly though the palm rest is slightly cool. Thanks to the new 9th generation Intel Core, the performance is exceptional.

This is the ideal laptop for heavy gamers. If you are one, then you for sure won’t be disappointed. On the whole, the battery runs just a little more than 2 hours. However, you can turn off several features and get more than 3 hours of usage.

Verdict

The Lenovo Legion Y740 is one of the best gaming laptops in the market at the moment. The features and configurations justify the price. The design is good; it is well built, look-wise too excels, keyboards are convenient for all purposes, powerful internals, an HDR-capable display.

Probably, the only drawback would be that it is slightly on the heavier side. Not to mention, the device gets warm quickly. Otherwise, the Lenovo Legion Y740 packs a punch and comes with excellent features that make it worth considering.
