Why, Hello Stila!

By Aninafish @aninafish

When a lot of make-up brands were still unavailable locally, stila comestics was one of those pretty, pretty packaging brands. I didn't really know if it worked, but I sure wanted to try it. I really loved their old packaging where cream products were in what looked like paint tubes.

(not Stila. but wanted a photo there. hahaha)

And there was the extremely girly illustrations (pink! stars!) Think BeneFit but remove the retro feel. They've been available in Rustan's since 2009—and I've only finally looked at the counter at Shangri-la Plaza.

Meet the Mango Crush Lip and Cheek Stain (PhP795 for .08oz). Best for the bronzed glow.

It comes in their clickable pens, you twist it until product comes out. You have to be both patient and careful with this. But it makes for pretty convenient packaging. As always, start with little, it's pretty buildable. Though I don't really recommend using the brush that comes with it since you don't really want to use the same brush on your lips and cheeks. Deposit some on a palette or on the back of your hand—use your fingers or a synthetic brush.

I don't remember a smell, so that's pretty neglible. But I really love the glow. BeneFit has a similar product called Cha Cha Tint.  I'm using this mostly as a cheek stain because it doesn't show on my uber dark lips, also it's pretty drying. But i'm really loving blushes now. So yay!

I'm also currently in love with neutral colors (so, so, so Vanilla. hahahaha!) And stila is best known for kitten (shimmering nude pink) except that it's too light for me to use as an overall base. So the make-up artist at the counter suggested Sun (shimmering golden peach) and I found Eden (a matte pink brown.) They were in refills, easy to pop into palettes (I found some great ones at Watercolors—will write about them soon!) They're PhP595 each and come in 2.6g which is double the size of regular eyeshadows (1.8g) so they pop into what are usually used as blush palettes. They're as large as Kryolan eyeshadows.

And here they are:

So that's Sun, Eden and then a comparison picture with MAC eyeshadows for size.

They're both excellent to use as highlight/base colors because they provide color without making it obvious I'm really wearing make-up. Except if you've seen me without make-up, you know that I have dark circles around my eyes so this makes me look made-up. Hahahaha.

Still, Sun and Eden. Note how Eden is only slightly perceptible.

So there. That's my first Stila haul, I'd really like to go back for their convertible colors which seem perfect for fresh, day looks and may serve to be excellent bases for wedding looks. They also recommend them for quick touch-ups.

Oh does anyone want Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer in Bare (light complexions with neutral beige undertones)? We can swap or you can just buy it off me! Just leave word, and I'll get back to you! Will pay for shipping, of course!

Stila Cosmetics is available at Rustan's Shangri-la, Gateway and Makati.
